Last Saturday (September 19), the Phoenix Concert Theatre in Toronto hosted the Dark Asylum World Tour, bringing together some of the biggest names in symphonic and power metal. With a solid crowd and an atmosphere packed with anticipation, the night promised a celebration of the genre — and delivered exactly that from start to finish.
The opening acts set the tone for the night and warmed up the crowd just right. Frozen Crown kicked things off strong, powered by Giada Etro’s impressive vocal versatility and stage presence. Shortly after, Visions of Atlantis took over with their pirate-themed aesthetic and epic atmosphere, getting the Phoenix fully into the groove. When Kamelot took the stage, the crowd didn't stop for a second — fans sang along to every word and opened up mosh pits throughout the set. The band proved to be extremely tight, seamlessly blending classic anthems like "Karma" and "Liar Liar" with newer material.
One of the night's biggest highlights came during the performance of "Sanctuary", when Clémentine Delauney and Giada Etro joined Tommy Karevik on stage. The collaboration between the three vocalists resulted in perfect harmony and top-tier vocal balance, delivering the most memorable moment of the show. To wrap things up, the band saved heavy hitters like "March of Mephisto" and "Sacrimony (Angel of Afterlife)" for the encore, closing out on a high note and leaving the stage to a massive ovation from the crowd. It was one of those shows that prove the true weight of symphonic metal live, making it crystal clear why Kamelot remains a benchmark in the genre.
